Welcome to the Friends of the Library

Our Mission: To raise funds and awareness for the Metropolitan Library System, support its mission, augment its ability to enhance services and programs, and to promote literacy within our community.

The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System was formed in 1978 and is recognized as a charitable 501c3 organization by the IRS. We are funded by annual dues paid by our members and by proceeds from our book sales, held each year in Oklahoma City and online through our Amazon storefront. In partnership with Metropolitan Library System’s 19 branches, we accept donations of used media materials – books, CDs, DVDs, books on CD, and vinyl records – at each branch and at our used materials Sort Site (map). Here, our volunteers prepare items withdrawn from library shelves and items donated by the community, for sales. Through the years our members, volunteers and booksale customers have generated nearly $5,000,000 in gifts to the Metropolitan Library System. We provide annual grants to fund strategic initiatives including:

  • Games, toys, and supplies for playful learning
  • Technology and training for innovative homework help
  • Engaging programming and opportunities for enriching lives
  • Scholarships and educational opportunities for library staff

We invite you to join us in our passion for libraries. Join, donate, shop or volunteer today so that together we can grow the Metropolitan Library System for Oklahoma County.
